The Benefits of Membership

PRBA provides its members ongoing regulatory advice on such matters as the complex U.S. and international hazardous materials transportation regulations, State requirements for battery collection, recycling, and disposal, and Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations.

PRBA actively participates in formal rulemaking proceedings and informal “stakeholder” discussions at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of Transportation, UN Subcommittee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, and International Civil Aviation Organization.

PRBA is a formally recognized participant in the UN Subcommittee and is the voice of the portable rechargeable battery industry at these important international meetings. PRBA has been successful in securing significant and favorable changes to provisions in the UN Model Regulations for lithium ion batteries and products that powered by them.

PRBA works closely with its counterparts in Europe and coordinates its efforts with several European battery trade associations including RECHARGE, Eurobat, and European Portable Battery Association. PRBA also has a long-standing and successful working relationship with the Battery Association of Japan (BAJ).

PRBA frequently spends times with reporters providing facts and details on all types of battery issues and keeps its members updated on recent news events by distributing weekly news updates and monthly regulatory and legislative updates.
