The U.S. Department of Transportation’s hazardous materials regulations (49 CFR) and international dangerous goods regulations (IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, ICAO Technical Instructions and IMDG Code) require lithium cells and batteries be tested in accordance with the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria prior to being offered for transportation.
