PRBA’s Fire Code Committee recently met to review the proposed changes to the battery and micro-mobility provisions in the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) and International Building Code (IBC) that will be considered by the International Code Council during their meeting in Long Beach, CA on October 23 – 31, 2024. The substantial changes address the following issues and requirements:
- Indoor and outdoor storage of lithium batteries;
- Charging of micromobility devices and industrial equipment;
- Safety standards for micromobility devices; and
- Consolidated chapters for batteries and battery-powered devices, industrial trucks, industrial equipment, robotic equipment, and appliances.
