The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) received a grant to explore best practices in battery labeling and recycling for the purpose of creating a voluntary standard. In June, EPA held the first of three expected workshops in Washington, D.C. on the best practices for small-format batteries. The workshop was attended by more than 50 stakeholders in the battery manufacturing and recycling areas. PRBA participated in the workshop and delivered a presentation covering industry best practices as well as an update on state-level extended producer responsibility (EPR) battery legislation. PRBA also hosted a reception after the meeting. There will be two additional workshops in 2024 and 2025 covering medium-format batteries and large-format batteries respectively, which PRBA plans to attend.
